I encountered this programdata/quoteexs/snp.sc once because I do not have an installed antivirus on my laptop. I don't know if it is an adware or a malware but this one is very aggressive and installed itself in all of my web browsers: Firefox, Chrome, and IE. I am very annoyed because everytime I will open any of these browsers, this file:///C:/ProgramData/Quoteexs/snp.sc to be exact is set as the homepage and replaced my default search engine which is Google.com.
If I am not mistaken, I got this quoteexs/snp.sc after trying to find a crack for a particular software. I already knew that the situation might happen, but still, I go for it and downloaded that so called crack. At the end of the day, the program that I wanted to crack was never cracked at all and my browsers were all messed up.
To first thing I did that time was to see my Task Manager for the unusual program that is running there and found some thing which I disabled immediately. But it did not work. The next thing I did was try resetting all of my browsers and clearing all the caches but, these all led to disappointments.
Later, I decided to download and install the ESET Internet Security 12. I updated the antivirus and start a manual scan of all my drives. At last the programdata/quoteexs/snp.sc was detected and was deleted immediately.
A couple of months later, because most of the time I am only using Google Chrome, I was amazed when I opened my Mozilla Firefox and the screenshot below showed up.
In the image above, you will see in the URL the feed.helperbar.com which is also associated to quoteexs/snp.sc. Since I already got an antivirus, it was automatically blocked and labeled as potentially unwanted content. I closed Firefox and relaunched it. I noticed that, there is a certain url in the address bar before the feed.helperbar.com appears. So I decided to use my Snipping Tool to get an instant screenshot of the screen and to clearly see the first url that appears before it redirects. And I got the image below.
the "file:///C:/ProgramData/Quoteexs/snp.sc" is the first url that appears before redirecting to feed.helperbar.com.
The next thing I did was to go and find that directory which inside the ProgramData folder inside C://. Note: If you cannot see the folder it is possible that the folder is hidden. You just need to unhide it using the Folder Options find in the Control Panel.
After changing the settings of your Folder Options, you will now see your ProgramData folder. Access the folder.
Inside it go and find the Quoteexs folder and delete it.
After deleting the folder. Reopen your Firefox and you will then see the image below. The message File not found is there because you deleted the folder that contains that particular file.
The mistake that I made before was, I clear the cache, reset the settings of Firefox but all of these resulted to nothing. The thing that we need to do is to remove all the shortcuts of Firefox on your Desktop, Start menu, and all the shortcuts. After deleting all of it, you just need to create a new one.
Go to Computer > C:\ > Program Files (x86) > Mozilla Firefox > find the Firefox.exe file. Right click the file > Send to > Desktop (create shortcut).
Now, go on your Desktop and try clicking the new Firefox shortcut there, and it will not redirect to the quoteexs/snp.sc location. Done!
